This story was inspired by Washington Irving's The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow. If you read this story and do a side by side comparison, you should find it relatively easy to see the parallels – especially in the way I chose to end this piece. I feel like one needs to learn from the best in order to write like the best, and I have always considered Washington Irving as one of the best writers of the nineteenth century. I'm not sure that I have been successful in imitating the masters, but I can say that I did my best.
